Privacy Policy
Last Updated: May 27, 2026
1. Introduction and Scope
GiveCare ("we," "our," or "us") provides text-message based support for people helping a loved one with care. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share information when you use GiveCare websites, SMS flows, assessments, benefits tools, and related services (the "Service").
We treat caregiving context as sensitive, even when the law does not classify it as medical data. Caregiving messages can include health conditions, medications, family relationships, benefits, finances, housing, emotional stress, crisis signals, and other personal details.
GiveCare is not a healthcare provider, therapist, lawyer, benefits agency, or emergency service. The current public Service is designed for non-HIPAA caregiver-support use. If GiveCare is used in a covered-entity, health-plan, provider, or BAA-backed setting, that workflow requires separate legal, security, and deployment review.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information you provide
- Account and contact information: name, phone number, email address, sponsor or referral code, consent status, and communication preferences.
- SMS conversations: text messages you send to and receive from GiveCare, including conversation history needed for continuity and safety review.
- Care context: who you support, your relationship to them, practical needs, unresolved tasks, resource needs, benefits questions, appointments, routines, and other caregiving details you choose to share.
- Assessment and score information: caregiver support assessment answers, check-in responses, caregiver-load signals, and related scores when you use those features.
- Benefits and resource screening information: information such as zip code, household size, income range, state, care situation, and other details you provide to identify potentially relevant public or nonprofit resources.
2.2 Information collected automatically
- Messaging metadata: message timestamps, delivery status, opt-in and opt-out events, and phone carrier delivery signals.
- Website and app usage: pages viewed, links clicked, feature usage, session information, browser type, device type, and approximate location inferred from network data.
- Operational logs: system events, error logs, model-call metadata, safety flags, admin actions, and audit records needed to run, secure, and debug the Service.
3. How We Use Your Information
3.1 Provide the Service
- Send and receive text messages through GiveCare.
- Maintain context so the Service can remember the care situation over time.
- Help organize caregiving needs, next steps, resources, and follow-up.
- Administer assessments, scores, and check-ins when you use those features.
- Surface potentially relevant public benefits, programs, and resources.
- Detect safety-sensitive situations and provide more cautious routing.
- Provide account, consent, support, and operational communications.
3.2 Improve and protect the Service
- Debug delivery, safety, reliability, and performance issues.
- Review quality and safety using limited internal access controls.
- Measure aggregate usage, conversion, resource gaps, and support needs.
- Improve prompts, workflows, assessments, and caregiver-support logic.
- Create aggregated or de-identified research and reporting outputs.
We do not use your personal caregiving conversations for advertising targeting. We do not sell your personal information.
4. AI Processing
GiveCare uses AI systems to help generate responses, summarize care context, evaluate safety boundaries, and improve the flow of support. When AI processing is needed, relevant message content and context may be sent to an AI provider for inference.
- Current AI processing: Mira responses may be processed by contracted AI model providers used by GiveCare.
- GiveCare improvement: We may use de-identified, aggregated, or anonymized conversation content and usage patterns to improve GiveCare for other caregivers, including prompts, safety rules, workflows, resource matching, assessments, and response quality.
- Public model training: We do not intentionally submit identifiable personal caregiving conversations to model providers for training public foundation models.
- Minimization: We aim to send only the context needed for the task, but AI responses require enough context to be useful and safe.
- Limits: AI responses can be wrong. They do not replace professional medical, legal, benefits, crisis, or emergency support.
5. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information.
We share information only as needed to operate, secure, support, or legally protect the Service:
- Messaging providers: send and receive SMS messages and process phone numbers, message content, opt-in and opt-out events, and delivery metadata.
- Hosting and database providers: host application data, backend functions, websites, APIs, security controls, and operational state for the Service.
- AI model providers: process message content and context when needed to generate or evaluate responses.
- Email providers: send account, operational, newsletter, or support email when you provide an email address or subscribe.
- Analytics and operations tools: help us understand usage and service health. We avoid using sensitive caregiving message content for ad targeting.
- Legal and safety disclosures: may occur if required by law, to protect rights and security, to investigate abuse, or to respond to credible safety risks.
Benefits screening is for informational support only. It is not an eligibility determination. We do not send your benefits screening information to a public program, agency, or nonprofit without your direction or consent.
6. SMS Messaging
GiveCare is built around text messaging. SMS is convenient, but it is not a perfectly private channel. Messages may appear on lock screens, shared phones, family plans, carrier systems, device backups, or other places outside GiveCare's control.
- Consent: When you enroll by phone, you consent to receive text messages from GiveCare. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply.
- Opt out: You can stop SMS messages at any time by texting STOP. You may be able to re-enable messages by texting START.
- Sensitive details: Do not text information you are not comfortable sharing through SMS. If you are in immediate danger, call emergency services or a crisis hotline rather than relying on GiveCare.
7. Retention and Deletion
We keep data only as long as we need it for support continuity, safety, operations, security, legal obligations, or legitimate service improvement. Different data types have different retention needs.
- Account and consent records: kept while your account or support relationship is active and as needed to honor legal or messaging requirements.
- SMS conversations and care context: kept for continuity and safety while your support relationship is active unless you request deletion, subject to limited exceptions below.
- Assessments, scores, and benefits screening: kept for support continuity unless you request deletion.
- Operational, audit, and security logs: kept under backend retention policies for debugging, security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, and abuse prevention.
- Email and SMS suppression records: kept as needed to honor opt-out and unsubscribe choices.
You may request deletion at any time. Deletion is intended to remove data linked to your caregiver record, including conversations, assessments, memory records, and benefits screening information, except where limited records must be retained for security, legal, fraud-prevention, abuse-prevention, or compliance reasons.
8. Your Privacy Rights and Controls
You can ask us to access, correct, export, or delete personal information associated with your GiveCare account.
8.1 What You Can Do
- Access: request a copy of personal information we have about you.
- Correction: update or correct inaccurate information.
- Deletion: request deletion of your account and associated data.
- Portability: request a structured export where technically feasible.
- Opt out of SMS: text STOP at any time.
- Withdraw use of the Service: stop using GiveCare and request deletion if you no longer want your information processed.

8.3 How to exercise your rights
To access, correct, export, or delete your data, contact us at: privacy@givecareapp.com
Include your name and the phone number associated with your GiveCare account. We will respond within a reasonable time and aim to complete verifiable deletion requests within 30 days unless legal, security, or operational limits require more time.
9. Security and Internal Access
- Transport safeguards: public and API traffic uses provider-managed HTTPS endpoints where supported.
- Storage safeguards: runtime data is stored in provider-managed systems with the safeguards those providers make available.
- Access controls: internal access is limited to people and systems that need it to operate, support, secure, or improve the Service.
- Operational hygiene: we aim to minimize sensitive information in logs, alerts, screenshots, public demos, and debugging tools.
- No perfect security: no internet or SMS service can guarantee perfect security. If we learn of a breach that requires notice, we will notify affected users and regulators as required by applicable law.
10. Health, HIPAA, and Consumer Health Data
GiveCare handles caregiving context that may be sensitive and health-related. That does not automatically mean GiveCare is subject to HIPAA in every use case.
- The public GiveCare Service is not a healthcare provider or medical device.
- We do not provide medical diagnosis, treatment, therapy, legal advice, benefits determinations, or emergency response.
- HIPAA applicability depends on the partner, role, data source, and data flow. Covered entity, health-plan, provider, or BAA-backed workflows require separate review.
- Consumer health privacy and breach notification laws may apply even when HIPAA does not. We aim to treat care-related data with that sensitivity.
11. Children and Dependents
GiveCare is intended for adults. Do not use the Service as a child-directed product. If you share information about a child, dependent, or other loved one, only share what is needed for caregiving support and avoid unnecessary identifiers.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the Service changes. If we make material changes, we will update the date above and provide additional notice when appropriate.
